(91+) When the rains were forecast to arrive on September 22nd, the team at Lafleur decided to pick all of the merlot vines destined for the grand vin on the single day of September 21st, but, there was not sufficient time to harvest the merlot plots that are earmarked for Les Pensées de Lafleur, so these vines were harvested ten days later, after the rain had passed and the vines had had a chance to dry out. The wine has turned out very well indeed, offering up a cool fruit-toned bouquet of cassis, dark berry, currant leaf, cigar smoke, dark, gravelly soil tones, fresh herbs and a discreet base of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and refined, with a lovely core of fruit, suave tannins and excellent length and grip on the focused finish. A very fine bottle in the making.
