(AG92-94 points) Dark and explosive in this vintage, Bernstein's Charmes-Chambertin is totally vibrant and pulsating in 2012. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices, tobacco and sweet red cherries flesh out in a textured, totally inviting Burgundy oozing with class. Savory herbs and sweet tobacco linger on the close.

(BH90-93 points) It's interesting when a wine that is reduced seems aromatically fresh all the same, which is the case here. There is good energy and fine detail to the bigger and richer middle weight flavors that possess good but not special depth yet the length is terrific. This is fashioned in a restrained, even cool style, particularly in the context of the 2012 vintage.

Very ripe aromas of cherry, red berry liqueur and licorice, plus a whiff of smoke. A step up in density of texture, sweetness and spicy lift from the Cazetiers, offering a distinctly smoother, more feminine character. The very fine-grained red berry flavors show an almost candied quality, but sound acidity gives the wine excellent clarity. Finishes with harmonious tannins and noteworthy length. This has turned out very well. 92+

(WA89-91 points) The 2012 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a blend of Charmes (in the middle of the vineyard) and Mazoyeres. It has a clean and pure, light and feminine bouquet with simple floral red cherry and fresh strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and segues into a succulent red cherry and strawberry middle. It does not boast enormous depth or persistency, but it is nicely balanced with a fresh, taut finish that is brisk, rather than abrupt. - Neal Martin
