Wine Spectator, April 2018

Firm and dense, this red sports cherry, leather, cigar box and sweet spice flavors. A juiciness midpalate adds depth. Finishes with tannins and a combination of earth, mineral and tobacco notes. Best from 2022...

jamessuckling.com, October 2017

An extremely dense and complex red with dried berry, cherry, floral and spice. Full body, powerful with a wealth of fruit and chewy tannins. This really is intense and beautiful. Goes on for minutes. Big wine. Drink in 2021.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2018

Showing a dark color and appearance, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a beautiful wine. The 2012 vintages deliver some great surprises, like the ones you get here. The wine is dark and powerful with full...

Wine & Spirits, April 2019

This estate’s vines stretch over the Montosoli hill, where northern breezes cooled the vines even in the warmth of 2012, yielding a wine that is a beacon of elegance for the vintage. Cool mineral tones seep into the red...

Tobacco, baked plum, dark spice and new leather aromas mingle with a truffle note on this earthy savory red. The aromas follow over to the taut medium-bodied palate along with fleshy black cherry and star anise. Chewy...

For over three generations, the Sassetti family has been producing wine in Montalcino. The “Podere Pertimali”, with its 16 hectares of vineyards, is nestled on a slope in the Montosoli hill, north of Montalcino—one of the most favorable terroirs for Sangiovese in the area. Maintaining the family tradition, Livio Sassetti has renovated and extended the vineyards, retaining the genetic material of the original vines and preserving their characteristics.

Livio was among the founders of Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. In 1968, he built a terracotta wall in his cellar, to keep the old vintages of the wines produced by his family. Today, this collection counts over 1000 bottles, among which stands out as the ‘grandmother’ of the current production - a bottle from the 1915 vintage!

In 1999, the Sassetti family purchased a property in the Tuscan Maremma, La Querciolina, within the DOC Montecucco. Thanks to their passion and experience, untended fields were nutured into into vineyards which produce Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo of great quality.

Today, both wineries are managed by Lorenzo Sassetti, Livio’s son, who is focused in continuing his family’s winemaking tradition.
