jamessuckling.com, November 2016

Very perfumed with black currant and cassis bush character. Medium to full body, fine and chewy tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Still a little tight but fun to taste now. Better in 2018.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2016

The 2012 Sammarco is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Merlot. Like with the d'Alceo, this hot vintage does not deliver the same soaring intensity and complexity as seen in past years. It shows added softness...

Wine & Spirits, April 2018

Scents of violet and menthol lend brightness to this wine’s flavors of black currant and dark plum. Primarily cabernet sauvignon, with five percent each of merlot and sangiovese, this aged in a mix of barriques and large...

Wine Enthusiast, March 2017

Castello dei Rampolla is a family-run wine estate located in the southern valley of Chianti Classico known as the “Conca d’Oro,” the Golden Basin. The land on which it stands has been owned by the di Napoli Rampolla family since 1739.

The estate produced its first bottles of Chianti Classico in 1975. The first bottles of Sammarco, a Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Sangiovese, were released in 1982. Castello dei Rampolla began practicing biodynamic farming in 1994, producing their first biodynamic wine, D’Alceo, in 1996.

Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco is a very fresh wine with fine aromas of woodland undergrowth and a deep, intense color. It is characterized by distinct aromas of ripe fruit and has a strong concentration of powerful tannins.

It is an elegant and refined wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with a percentage of Sangiovese and Merlot. Production varies, from 8000 to 18000 bottles, depending on the weather conditions
