Another pure, elegant and layered release from Matt Reynvaan, the 2012 The Unnamed Syrah exhibits subtle dark berry fruit, truffle, olive, lavender and smoked meat aromas and flavors in full-bodied, balanced, layered and seamless package. It picks up more classic violet and peppery herb notes with air and fills in beautifully on the mid-palate; nevertheless, it’s the least expressive at the moment aromatically, so give it a few years in the cellar. The blend here is 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache Blanc. - JD
