Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Clos des Argillières has an oakier on the nose that some of the others within its peer group: quite broody black cherry and blueberry fruit that begin to open with aeration, but still nicely defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly chewy opening, more masculine and structured for a Nuits-Saint-Georges, with a strong saline, almost brine-like finish. This is one of those Burgundy wines that needs to be on the dinner table rather than a blind tasting like this. Give it two or three years in bottle. - Neal Martin
