WS 95
Wine Spectator, December 2018
Extravagant, yet balanced and refined, with lush, crisp brioche, fresh ginger and spice, roasted hazelnut and Asian pear flavors that fan out on the lengthy finish. Drink now through 2020. From California.—T.F

Straw gold in the glass with columns of small bubbles, this 2012 release from Roederer opens with a bouquet of freshly baked pie dough, baked apples and pears as well as confit lemon on a backdrop of dry stones. It’s lush on the palate, with notes of yeast preceding the onset of the fruit and the minerality. The finish is long, carried by a refreshing and piercing acidity and a tinge of tart fruit. Pair with good holiday cheer.

Label

L'Ermitage, Roederer Estate's special Tete de Cuvee, is a sparkling wine made only in exceptional years from pre-selected, estate-grown grapes. Carrying on the tradition of Champagne Louis Roederer in France, Roederer Estate produces its sparkling wines in the traditional French method and adds special oak-aged reserve wines to each blend. L'Ermitage debuted with the 1989 vintage.
