(BH88-91 points) Mild reduction knocks down the nose but there is an appealing freshness to the vibrant medium-bodied flavors that also exude a fine bead of minerality on the refined, linear and balanced finish that presently exhibits a touch of austerity. In a word, lovely.

(WA88-90 points) The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru is a blend of two parcels in the lieux-dits, Les Pitures Dessus and Mitans, that can sometimes include fruit from young vines elsewhere, though not in 2013. It has a clean and pure, perfumed black cherry and wild-strawberry bouquet with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins, good acidity and with just a touch of sinew on the finish that should soften by the time of bottling. I would like to see this put on just a little more flesh by the time of bottling. - Neal Martin
