jamessuckling.com, February 2016

This is a phenomenal white with super density and energy. Full body, yet incredibly agile and intense. Fabulous character of salt, mineral and shells. Hints of tannin too. Dried white peach. Pear and apple. Super subtle...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2017

Even though it's still baby, the wine easily serves up all the fresh, crisp, pomelo, citrus, grapefruit, lemon peel, rocks, stones and honeysuckle you require. Richly textured, with a true purity of fruit and freshness...

Wine Enthusiast, March 2016

This is a beautiful wine, fresh with acidity and structured with a mineral texture. Layers of creamy citrus and white fruit flavors go along with touches of wood aging that are well integrated. It’s a wine to drink...

Wine Spectator, January 2014

( 92-95 points) This marries high-pitched thyme, chamomile and quinine notes with richer white peach, shortbread and meringue flavors. The long finish pulls everything together. Should be a beauty when finished.

Decanter, November 2018

Another vintage that was challenging for the reds but a success in the whites. The aromatics jump out of the glass, and this feels like it’s already primed to give lots of pleasure. It will continue to develop but can be...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2016

The 2013 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is very refined on the nose. There is a sense of effortlessness here that is very persuasive, unfolding with lemon thyme and lime, just a touch of lychee in the background, everything...

Domaine de Chevalier of the Pessac-Leognan appellation is classified as a Grand Cru Classe de Graves. The property belonged to the Ricard family from 1865 until it was purchased by its current owners, the Bernard family, in 1983. It is one of a very few Bordeaux estates to have kept its “domaine” title instead of using the the more popular “chateau” designation.

The estate covers a hundred hectares, of which 45 are under vine: 40 for the property’s red wines, and 5 for its whites. The vineyards are planted with 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot for the red wines, and 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon for the white wines. Soils are dark sand and fine white gravel.

Domaine de Chevalier has been run since acquisition by Olivier Bernard, who perpetuates that spirit of balance and the constant drive for perfection which have been the hallmark of their outstanding wines. The flagship red belongs to the elite of the great classified growths of Bordeaux, while the white is recognized as one of the world’s finest dry wines. The domaine also produces red and white second wines under the Esprit de Chevalier label, which are made from the estate’s young vines.

The 2013 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a remarkable white wine hailing from the prestigious Bordeaux region in France. With its elegant appearance and enticing aromas, this wine truly captures the essence of the Bordeaux Blanc varietal.

In the glass, the wine showcases a pale golden color, hinting at its freshness and vibrancy. The nose is greeted with a bouquet of thyme, chamomile, and quinine, which are complemented by richer aromas of white peach, shortbread, and meringue. These contrasting notes create a harmonious and complex aromatic profile.

On the palate, the wine delivers a delightful combination of high acidity and a mineral texture that adds depth and structure. Layers of creamy citrus and white fruit flavors dominate the palate, with subtle hints of wood aging that seamlessly integrate with the overall profile. The finish is long and satisfying, pulling everything together in a harmonious symphony of flavors.

Renowned wine critics have praised the 2013 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, with Wine Spectator awarding it an impressive score of 95 points. Wine Enthusiast also rated it highly, describing it as a beautiful wine with freshness, acidity, and a mineral texture. James Suckling was particularly effusive in his praise, awarding the wine a staggering score of 98 points and describing it as a "phenomenal white" with incredible density and energy.

The 2013 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a wine that can be enjoyed now due to its freshness, but it also has great aging potential. As it continues to evolve, it will develop even more complexity and depth, making it a true gem for the future. Whether you choose to savor it now or cellar it for a few years, this wine promises to be a memorable and rewarding experience for any wine enthusiast.
