(AG92-94 points) A much more finessed, silky side of Gevrey emerges from the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers. Ethereal yet wonderfully pliant on the palate, the 2013 is endowed with magnificent depth. As is typically the case with superb Cazetiers, Bruno Clair's 2013 is all about understatement and finesse, two signatures of this great Gevrey site.

Discreet wood serves as the backdrop for the deeply pitched nose that is comprised by notes of pepper, game, earth, dark currant and that sauvage character for which Gevrey is so well known. There is excellent richness and volume to the sappy and full-bodied flavors that display plenty of minerality on the highly complex, powerful and lingering finish. This structured effort has enough sap that even though it should amply reward extended keeping it should also be approachable young if desired. 2025+

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cazetiers has a lifted raspberry and redcurrant-scented bouquet that needs to develop a little more complexity and terroir-expression. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, a keen line of acidity, and impressive harmony and refinement on the finish - red cherries and wild strawberry fruit. This is a winsome Cazetier that might hold a torch to the Clos Saint-Jacques 2013 if the aromatics can muster greater nuance. - Neal Martin

Closed nose hints at dark berries, licorice and rocks, along with a subtle note of game. Less perfumed in the mouth than the 2014 version but shows good peppery energy and a fairly silky texture to its purple fruit flavors. Finishes with very good length and lift and no dryness. This grew on me as more intense blackberry fruit emerged with air.
