Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Valorent has an understated bouquet with subtle flinty, slate-like aromas that gradually unfurl in the glass, a whiff of smoke emerging later. The palate is well balanced with citrus lemon, orange sorbet and green apple notes. Focused, animated and pretty, this is a beautifully crafted Fourchaume for the vintage. Tasted May 2016. - Neal Martin
