(90-92) A softly perfumed nose plays right on the edge of exotic fruit on the otherwise more typical notes of acacia blossom, apple and peach aromas that are trimmed in just enough pain grillé to notice. The intensely mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors possess excellent detail and drive on the complex, stylish and classy finish that delivers very fine persistence. This chiseled effort possesses good mid-palate fat and could be enjoyed on the younger side if desired.

(bottled the week before my visit): Bright pale yellow. Extremely tight on the nose. Lovely spicy lift to the flavors of lemon, menthol and wet stone. Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru les Perrières has a composed and refined bouquet that opens beautifully in the glass: quite mineral-driven with hints of white flowers and walnut oil. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, not quite as complex as some of its peers, but here I appreciate the bitter edge and the tension, the persistence on the lightly spiced, white pepper-tinged finish. This is a quality Meursault from the château that takes its name. Tasted May 2016.- NM
