(WA95-97 points) The 2013 Musigny Grand Cru was picked on October 8, underwent a 19-day maceration and contains partial whole-cluster fruit. The nose is standoffish at first, but it’s just playing with you. It has superb definition and transparency: wilted violets and blackberry coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, tensile in the mouth, plenty of energy here with a long and beautifully composed finish. This is one of the wines of the vintage - regal and majestic. - Neal Martin

(BH93-96 points) A brooding and reticent nose only grudgingly displays notes of spice, menthol and liqueur-like black cherry aromas. The broad-shouldered flavors are big yet possess a notably more refined mouth feel while conceding nothing in terms of power and punch on the cool, pure and perfectly balanced finish that just seems to go on and on. This is not as big and robust as the Bonnes Mares but it’s finer and has that extra dimension of depth and class that a great example of Musigny intrinsically possesses. In short, this is potentially a great wine. 2030+

The queen of the cellar at Joseph Drouhin is once again superb in 2013, offering up a beautiful, youthfully complex nose of red and black cherries, gamebirds, cocoa, a very complex base of soil tones, woodsmoke, mustard seed and nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very soil-driven, with a rock solid core, stunning soil signature, tangy acids, fine-grained tannins and superb length and grip on the perfectly balanced finish. This will be an outstanding vintage of this iconic bottling of Musigny. (Drink between 2025-2080)
