(JG94-96 points) As I noted in the introduction, the 2013 Bienvenues chez Leflaive was a bit reticent at the time of my visit, and given the absolute fireworks of virtually every other wine in the cellar, I have to assume that this wine was simply lagging a bit in terms of evolution and still a bit buttoned up behind its structural elements. The pretty bouquet offers up scents of white peach, pear, orange blossoms, a touch of beeswax, chalk and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and very tightly-knit, with excellent length and grip on the backend, fine focus and plenty of backend energy. It is not particularly expressive in the mid-palate today, but I am going to assume that is just the stage it is in at the present time, as it seems unthinkable that a team that is at the absolute top of its game these days would hit the ball out of the park with every other wine and turn out a lean example of Bienvenues in 2013. (Drink between 2023-2060)
