DuMOL's tour de force 2013 "clare" bottling is sourced from the highly regarded Hyde Vineyard in Carneros and stands with the finest Chardonnays of the vintage. It is both weighty and full without once seeming top heavy, and, if built on a slightly bigger last, it is exceptionally well-structured. Its effusive, many-layered display of ripe apples, sweet lemons and creamy, wholly complementary oak is immediately striking, yet it reveals more and more with a bit of time in the glass, and its terrific sense of balance and fruity drive is that of a wine that is years away from reaching its best.

The 2013 Chardonnay Clare comes 100% from the Hyde Vineyard and represents a 22-year-old Wente clone of Chardonnay. This wine displays more buttery brioche notes, hints of tangerine oil and lemon blossom, a subtle, discreet use of oak, loamy soil undertones, and a full-bodied, almost premier cru Meursault-like white Burgundy personality.
