This is very beautiful and structured with lots of perfectly ripe fruit and spicy, coffee undertones. Full body, velvety tannins and a savory finish. Lovely fruit and decadence. Sangiovese and 10% cabernet sauvignon...

(92+) This is a fantastic wine that has seen a happy jump forward in quality. The 2013 Morellino di Scansano Riserva is Sangiovese with a 10% quota of Cabernet Sauvignon. That composition has formed a wine of depth and...

Fattoria Le Pupille, located in the Maremma region of Tuscany, is a leading winery owned by Elisabetta Geppetti, the Ambassador of Maremma and called the Lady of Morellino. As a young student, Elisabetta had foreseen great productive potential in the countryside she loved, and armed with her enthusiasm and love of wine which she inherited from her grandfather, she embarked on a journey to transform her family’s small wine estate into what it is today: 175+ acres of vineyards, more than 500,000 bottles made every year and presence in the markets of four continents.

The core of the property is around the village of Pereta surrounded by 65 acres of vineyard that include 12 acres which give life to the winery’s legendary wine: Saffredi. With the support of Italian wine legend Giacomo Tachis, she replanted Cabernet Sauvignon on a few vines of Sangiovese, which in 1985 started bearing fruit, giving birth to a project that has made the winery the true pioneer of Maremma.

The operating nucleus of the property, from early 2000, is in proximity of Istia d’Ombrone near Grosseto. The winery is an antique farmhouse surrounded by a 30-acre vineyard, including a small patch dedicated to Sangiovese grapes coming from ancient vine rows.

The Le Pupille vineyards are planted to 70% Sangiovese, 10% Malvasia Nera and Alicante, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot, 2% Syrah and 2% Cabernet Franc. There are 23 acres of vineyards for the white grape varieties: Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

The Riserva represents the roots of Fattoria Le Pupille, being the first wine made by the young winery—even before the creation of the DOC Morellino in 1978. The Riserva is the full expression of Sangiovese and the wild strength of Maremma.
