(94+) I love good Caillerets and the Fontaines’ version is stellar in 2013. The pure and utterly classic aromatic constellation delivers a blend of delicious apples, pear, lemon, very complex, chalky minerality, a plethora of fruit blossoms and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very, very racy, with a rock solid core, great detail and a very long, quite reserved and utterly pristine finish. Great juice and an absolutely classic example of this great, great premier cru vineyard. (Drink between 2019-2040)

The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Caillerets has an enthralling bouquet full of chalk and flint scents, all with great precision, hints of orange blossom developing in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with impressive depth – subtle white peach notes inflecting the fruit with a smooth and sensual butterscotch-tinged finish that feels long in the mouth. This should offer immense pleasure over the next decade and more.

There is a hint of reduction present but not so much as to materially mask the pungent aromas of ripe citrus and white orchard fruit scents that are nuanced by hints of wet stone. There is outstanding punch to the delicious and equally mineral-inflected flavors that deliver fine depth and length where the lingering finish displays a hint of bitter lemon. This is presently quite firm and should repay up to a decade of cellaring.

(17.5/20) Pure, complex, exotic aroma. Real class and depth here. Grippy, nutty, very Chassagne, and palpably from a superior vineyard. (AH)
