Fontodi is a certified-organic estate in Tuscany that has belonged to the Manetti family since 1968. The property extends over 130 hectares, 70 planted with vines. The estate’s guiding principle is respect of nature and sustainability letting them produce wines that are better, purer, and a truer expression of the grape and the territory.

Flaccianello della Pieve is 100% Sangiovese from a selection of the best vineyards in the Colli Toscania Centrale IGT region. At the modern, gravity-fed winery, the juice ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts for at least 3 weeks. The wine ages in Troncais and Allier (French) oak barrels for 24 months.

The 2013 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve is a truly remarkable wine that embodies the essence of Sangiovese and the terroir of Tuscany. This commanding red wine is a strong protagonist of both the vintage and its territory, making it a must-have for connoisseurs of Sangiovese.

Upon pouring, the wine reveals a dark, brooding, and austere color that hints at the depth and complexity within. The bouquet is nothing short of gorgeous, with wild berry, tangy spice, crushed mineral, and forest flower notes intertwining harmoniously. This wine is a testament to the authenticity, elegance, complexity, and pristine nature of Sangiovese.

On the palate, the Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve showcases exuberance and energy. It is beautifully balanced, with a backbone of acidity that adds freshness and vitality to each sip. The finish seems never-ending, leaving a lasting impression on the palate. This wine is a true masterpiece that will continue to evolve and improve with age, and it is suggested that it be cellared for twenty years or more.

Renowned wine critic Monica Larner of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded the 2013 Flaccianello della Pieve an impressive score of 98 points. She praises its authenticity and elegance, noting its gorgeous bouquet and seemingly endless finish. Wine Spectator also recognized the excellence of this wine, giving it a score of 93 points. They highlight its polished nature, toasty oak, and refined tannins. James Suckling, another esteemed critic, awards this wine an outstanding score of 97 points, describing it as precise, focused, and a "real deal."

With only 4,000 cases made, this wine is a true gem that should not be missed. Its power, finesse, and undeniable quality make it a standout among its peers. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for further development, the 2013 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve is a classic Sangiovese that will impress even the most discerning wine enthusiasts.
