(92-94 points) The 2013 Lavaux St. Jacques from Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy was raised in forty percent new wood in this vintage. It was still a bit cranky on the palate from the assemblage at the time of my visit, but the bouquet was in pristine form and strongly suggested this will be an excellent vintage for this bottling. The excellent bouquet offers up scents of cassis, black cherries, bitter chocolate, grilled meat, dark soil tones, woodsmoke and a touch of new wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, long, pure and vibrant, with a lovely core of fruit, fine-grained tannins and a long, tangy finish. The balance here is excellent and I assume the wine will snap into perfect focus once it has a chance to bounce back a bit more from its racking.
