Pale yellow. Sweet, ripe aromas of yellow plum and oak char, plus a more exotic suggestion of mirabelle. The yellow fruit flavors show good power and penetration, along with an attractive sucrosité that belies the wine's extremely low residual sugar (0.3 g/l, according to Boillot). Tactile and very dry on the finish. This wine has turned out very well. -- Stephen Tanzer

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Referts has a crisp and lively bouquet with Japanese yuzu and orange sorbet aromas that combine neatly with the mineral component. The palate is fresh and taut with crisp acidity, stony and reserved but focused, plenty of depth coiled up on the finish. I can see this aging nicely although I noticed that it did lose a little energy in the glass, so perhaps this is best consumed in its flush of youth. Tasted May 2016. -NM
