This estate is owned by the brilliant Michel Gracia, so it’s a shame so little of this wine was produced, but the vineyard itself is microscopic. Approximately three acres are planted on sandy and clay-like soils with a rich layer of what the locals call “crasse de fer,” which is an iron-like component. The wine in its final blend was 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The natural alcohol is 13.5%. Less that 1,000 bottles were produced of this wine, so it will be virtually impossible to find. The wine is looked after by Michel Rolland’s top guy, Jean-Philippe Fort. Yields were almost unbelievable at 6 hectoliters per hectare! The wine is a dense opaque purple color, with a big sweet kiss of melted licorice, blackberry and blueberry, incense and a touch of charcoal embers. This is amazingly rich, especially for a 2013. The wine is medium to full-bodied, quite opulent, floral and a beauty. It is clearly one of the superstars of the vintage, but good luck finding any. - Robert M. Parker, Jr. (WA94-92)
