While there is plenty of toastiness here, this wine also has a pure and fruity character. It is aromatic, full of white flowers and garden perfumes. Complex with acidity, it also offers lemongrass and spice against a background that is textured, nervy and mineral. Drink from 2018.

(BH90-92 points) Here the nose exhibits a vague nuance of the exotic on the otherwise more typical aromas of apple, pear, acacia blossom and a hint of wood. There is excellent richness to the solidly concentrated medium weight flavors that possess a notably generous and succulent mouth feel before concluding in a balanced, palate coating and attractively persistent finale. Good stuff fashioned in a style that should allow for early accessibility. 2020+

(WA89-91 points) The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Referts has more fruit concentration than the La Garenne at this stage with touches of dried mango and pineapple joining the chorus line. This is a more outgoing bouquet at this primal stage. The palate is fresh and keen on the entry, quite steely in the mouth, with a terse, pointed, angular finish that should smooth out by the time of bottling. Moderate length in the mouth, this is a fine les Referts, but it needs to develop that extra level of complexity. - Neal Martin
