Depths of black cherry, mint leaf, hints of saw dust and clove form a wildly attractive bouquet as the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti di Versante opens in the glass. This is remarkably fresh and vibrant, so much so that it’s almost impossible to detect its ten years of age. Soft and supple, it possesses zesty acidity that invigorates its ripe wild berry fruit. There is simply so much energy here, even as the 2013 remains tight and structured through the finale, lingering incredibly long with inner rose-toned florals. In 2013, fruit from the Bassolino vineyard was added to the Vigneti di Versante. Collectors lucky enough to have this in their cellars should be smiling from ear to ear.
