This cool, gray-slate vineyard on the south side of the Nahe River regularly turns out elegant rieslings, and Dönnhoff’s 2013 is particularly riveting. Vinified in a combination of stainless steel and wood, it’s crystal clear in flavor, brisk and snappy, yet not at all austere. Rather, it feels perfectly poised, the lemony fruit light and brisk; the acidity firm and supple, with a willowy strength that would hold it strong if it were to meet a juicy halibut steak with favas this spring.
