You'll find alluring scents of black-skinned berry, baking spice, violet, a hint of leather and a balsamic note on this well-structured red. The chewy palate shows dense black cherry, raspberry compote, licorice, clove and pipe tobacco alongside velvety tannins and fresh acidity. A hint of cinnamon closes the finish. It's already approachable but also has great mid-term aging potential. Drink through 2023.

This red yields barely a glimmer of cherry, licorice and tar for now, yet all the elements are in place for a medium-term evolution. Stiff, mouthcoating tannins patrol the finish. Best from 2019 through 2032. 400 cases made. –BS

The 2013 Barbaresco Cottà is thinner and subtler in approach, and those added oak tones feel heavier and more apparent as a result. The fruit is slightly masked but will emerge with greater intensity and power as the wine ages forward in the bottle. Give this Barbaresco a few more years to reach balanced integration.
