Aged 18 months in 22% new French oak, The 2013 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard is medium-bodied, juicy and lively, with bright acidity giving plenty of lift to its spring flowers, forest floor, mint and sweet Pinot Noir fruit. Plump but not overripe raspberry and alpine strawberry notes greet the nose on this bottling, with hints of shiitake mushrooms, turned earth and lavender. There’s lots of herbal depth and chaparral character on the palate, with a touch of candied cherry, all presented with zesty energy that buzzes through the sip. — M.K.

A whiff of floral character adds both elegance and lift to the pretty, cool and airy array that is comprised primarily by various red berry and discreet spice scents. There is excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the delicious, vibrant and well-detailed medium weight flavors that possess a highly appealing mouth feel before terminating in a saline, balanced and beautifully lingering finale. This will need a few years to flesh out as the finish is quite linear at present but the underlying material appears to be present to allow this to do so. In a word, lovely. 2020+
