Firm plum in colour, the texture is supple and seductive with Pauillac tannic grip kicking in alongside gourmet cocoa bean, cassis, pomegrante and red liquorice. Still young but you can begin to enjoy this with a good few hours in a carafe - unquestionably a 2014 to look out for. Further precision work had been done in the vineyard by this point, not only in the grape selection, but soil restructing work to ensure the roots were heading deeper down. The 2014 Clerc Milon has a vivacious and forward bouquet with cedar and graphite-infused black fruit, violet traces emerging with time, oozing with class. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, graphite once more defining the appellation. It's tensile and almost citrus-fresh on the finish. The 2014 Clerc Milon lags behind its 2015 counterpart but is a solid, concentrated, charming 2014 that’s certainly an outstanding wine, and then some. Red and black currants, lots of earthy minerality, tobacco, and cigar notes all give way to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, ripe, textured 2014 that has good acidity, fine tannin, and loads of charm. It’s approachable today but will be better with 3-4 years of bottle age and shine for two decades or more.

The 2014 Clerc Milon is more backward on the nose compared to the d'Armailhac: quite sumptuous in style with black fruit, dark plum, vanilla and a pungent violet scent. The palate is wonderful: a fabulous line of acidity, tensile and focused, mineral and intense with blackberry, citrus fruit, bilberry and cedar towards the elegant, yet intense finish. There is something almost Lafite-like about this Clerc-Milon and in my book, there is nothing wrong with that. - Neal Martin

This is defined by a large, rounded core of enticing cassis, cherry preserves and plum compote, while light anise and briar notes hang in the background. Offers an ample spine for balance, but this feels like it may be approachable sooner because of that ball of fruit. Best from 2018 through 2028. — JM
