The 2014 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard offers up attractive aromas of cigar box, cassis fruit, loamy soil and espresso roast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a juicy core of fruit and powdery structuring tannins that still need some time in the cellar to resolve. Beautifully balanced and incipiently complex, this should evolve for a long time to come. It's a blend of 33% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 9% Petit Verdot. - William Kelley

Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon each make up a third of this wine, with smaller amounts of Merlot and Petit Verdot. Its dark cherry, earth, flower and spice aromas are followed by concentrated and luscious but still refined cherry flavors. It shows a lot of structure and ripeness, in keeping with the warmth of the vintage.

Sexy scents of plum, black cherry, blueberry and graphite lifted by a floral topnote, with a slightly roasted quality adding complexity. Very intense if slightly medicinal flavors of dark fruits, spices and herbs are distinctly Bordeaux-like in a rather muscular style for Red Mountain. Dense, aromatic and long, finishing with broad, fine-grained tannins and lovely claret-like perfume.
