A deeper, richer style compared to the Reed vineyard, the 2014 Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1975 and was harvested mid-September - from miniscule yields on the order of 1.41 tons per acre. It’s deeper ruby color is followed by a gorgeously layered, multi-dimensional Pinot Noir that offers notes of black raspberries, tart black cherries, toasted spices, sassafras and autumn leaves. There’s a warmth and generosity here that’s missing from the Reed Vineyard, yet it still has beautiful complexity as well as depth. Count me a fan and this Grand Cru Pinot Noir from California will keep for 15-20 years.
