The 2014 Le Carre has developed throughout its barrel maturation and now in bottle. It has a generous and perfumed bouquet with incense and iris scents permeating the black cherry and blueberry fruit. There is opulence here, for sure, but it is nicely controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe red cherry and raspberry fruit on the entry. This Le Carré has an über-smooth texture, not a hair out of place, becoming ever spicier as it swaggers towards its finish. There is a luscious quality to this Saint Emilion—a discrete wine within Jonathan Maltus' stable, but certainly one worth investigating. - Neal Martin
