jamessuckling.com, July 2018

Wonderful aromas of crushed raspberries, blueberries and violets follow through to a full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Joyful 2014! A blend of cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. Drink or hold.

Vinous, February 2019

The 2014 d'Alceo is more in line with previous years than Sammarco. Deep, unctuous and super-powerful, the 2014 exudes richness and textural intensity from the very first taste. Readers will have to give the 2014 at least...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2019

Made with 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot, this focused red offers earthy aromas of moist soil, new leather, cedar and black currant. It's elegant and racy, delivering cassis, juicy black cherry, licorice...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, November 2018

Fruit for this wine always comes from the same vineyard site, and production was heavily reduced in this difficult vintage. If an average year sees 13,000 bottles made, only 6,200 bottles were made of the 2014 d'Alceo...

Wine Spectator, August 2019

Pushes the boundaries of ripeness, offering plum, macerated black cherry, fruitcake and earth flavors and resinous details. Firm tannins line the finish, where a leafy underbrush note lingers. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit...

Castello dei Rampolla is a family-run wine estate located in the southern valley of Chianti Classico known as the “Conca d’Oro,” the Golden Basin. The land on which it stands has been owned by the di Napoli Rampolla family since 1739.

The estate produced its first bottles of Chianti Classico in 1975. The first bottles of Sammarco, a Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Sangiovese, were released in 1982. Castello dei Rampolla began practicing biodynamic farming in 1994, producing their first biodynamic wine, D’Alceo, in 1996.

Vigna d’Alceo is Castello dei Rampolla’s first biodynamic wine. It represents a union between the two generations of the Castello dei Rampolla winery: Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot as the founder Alceo, wished and biodynamic as his children, Luca and Maurizia, practice.

The wine is fermented in concrete, then aged in 500L barrels for 12-15 months and in bottle for 18-24. It fully reflects the character of the vineyard from which it originates. It is intense, warm, refined and elegant.Well-ripened red fruits blend perfectly with delicate notes of cigar and tobacco - an amazing concentration with no heaviness.
