A lean, racy red, featuring cherry, strawberry, spice and mineral flavors. Very compact and linear, this is nonetheless persistent and long on the aftertaste. Coiled and youthful, this will need time to unwind. Best from 2020 through 2032. 122 cases made. — BS

(90-93 points) Here too there is enough reduction present to prevent an examination of the nose but I did note that floral elements are evident. There is outstanding volume and good phenolic maturity to the round, velvety and overtly powerful middle weight plus flavors that possess a firm core of tannins on the mouth coating, dusty and impressively persistent finish. This is a serious Corton where patience will also be required.

(90-92 points) The 2014 Corton Les Marechaudes Grand Cru has a detailed nose of brambly red fruit, briary, pressed white flowers and limestone - really captivating aromatics that I hope will be as nuanced and expressive once in bottle. The palate is fresh and vibrant with refined tannin. There is a gentle but persistent grip here, linear at first but opening slightly towards the citrus finish. I would have just liked a little more persistence and flesh, but this remains a very intellectual Corton Marechaudes that may warrant a higher score once in bottle. - NM

(90-91 points) (just fined; the first of these 2014s that was still in tank in December; 50% vendange entier; 20% new oak): Good medium red. Ripe aromas of raspberry, minerals, coffee and mocha. Plush, sweet and concentrated, showing good energy to the fruit-driven flavors of raspberry, cherry and chocolate. A dense, lightly saline fruit bomb with lovely length. The pH of this elegantly styled Corton grand cru is 3. 9, with 3. 2 grams per liter acidity. The production here was 30 hectoliters per hectare, which Claude de Nicolay described as a normal crop. -- Stephen Tanzer
