Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Arlaud's 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru aux Combottes has a simple bouquet compared to its peers, with black cherries, a touch of cassis and a splash of inkwell. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, good grip in the mouth, voluminous and powerful, yet it still cuts away a little swiftly toward the finish. More primal than its peers, it should be afforded another 2 or 3 years in bottle. Tasted September 2017. - Neal Martin
