(WA89-91 points) The 2014 Volnay 1er Cru En Caillerets comes from vines mostly planted in 1976 and sees 30% new oak. It has a charming and quite seductive bouquet: blackberry and griottes, those wet limestone notes percolating through with gentle aeration. The palate is supple on the entry, quite high-toned compared to its peers with a succulent, candied cassis and black cherry finish, then a saline aftertaste. Give this a couple of years in bottle to shave off the edges. - Neal Martin

Sweet and chocolatey in the mouth but a bit chunky today. The wine's substantial tannins are still somewhat unrefined. Although the Pousse d'Or wines were in tank in November, they remained on their fine lees.

An appealingly fresh and airy nose features ripe aromas of violets, plum, dark cherry and a discreet hint of various spice elements. There is lovely energy and underlying tension to the mineral-inflected, sleek, intense and delicious flavors that culminate in a dusty and moderately austere finish that also displays a hint of bitter cherry.
