(WA92-94 points) The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Beaumonts has a stony, quite reserved nose at first -- tightly wound black fruit, precise and detailed, though not as expressive as Aux Brûlées at this stage. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with firm, almost rigid tannin that frame the blackberry and raspberry fruit interlaced with citrus notes towards the correct, graphene finish. It should be afforded 3-5 years in bottle. - Neal Martin

(BH91-94 points) The perfumed, cool and airy nose is slightly more elegant with its mix of red and dark currant, sandalwood, violet and lilac scents. The polished and equally cool middle weight flavors possess a wonderfully refined mouth feel thanks to the fine grain of the tannins along with more evident minerality on the mildly austere, balanced and strikingly persistent finale. This is a classic Beaux Monts with an ultra-sophisticated mouth feel.

Alluring scents of blueberry, blackberry, minerals, licorice and bitter chocolate; the ripest of these 2014s to this point. Conveys good thickness without weight, with the black fruit, licorice and mineral flavors showing sound acidity and a light touch. Nuances of mint and herbs contribute energy without impinging on the wine's fruit. This juicy, penetrating, dense wine finishes with a firm spine of tannins and excellent energy. Grivot noted that there was a bit of hail here but that "the effect was invisible by harvest time." - Stephen Tanzer

Alluring aromas of black cherry, pungent minerals and crushed stone display a medicinal reserve. Big, rich and classic, conveying superb depth to its fresh fruit and saline mineral flavors. Shows a chocolatey ripeness but this vin de terroir is as much about soil as fruit. Wonderfully pure, precise wine with broad, dusty tannins and terrific length. Lay this one down and forget about it for at least six or seven years.
