Fabulous aromas of crushed berries such as blackberries and blackcurrants, not to mention spices. Wet earth and cedar, too. Complex. Full-bodied, yet agile and complete. A dense center palate. Ultra-round tannins...

janeanson.com, February 2024

Here we see the potential of 2014 in the right hands, and this stands out from its neighbours in northern Médoc, one to note down and look out for. Silky tannins, a ton of cocoa bean, bitter chocolate and espresso...

The 2014 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is show-stopping stuff, and it goes a long way toward proving how successful the northern parts of the Médoc were in this vintage. Lots of cassis, graphite, smoked tobacco, and damp...

Decanter, June 2021

The 2014 vintage from Château Ducru-Beaucaillou stands out for its very singular nose of Cabernet-Sauvignon with peppery notes, blackcurrant, green bell pepper, graphite and blueberry with aeration. This is not the most...

The Wine Independent, September 2023

A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, the 2014 Ducru-Beaucaillou is deep garnet in color. It needs a fair bit of swirling to unlock notes of blackcurrant pastilles, baked plums, and tar, leading to hints of...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, August 2023

Surprisingly precocious, the wine already expresses charm, round, soft tannins, layers of black currants, cocoa, espresso, and blackberries. Round, soft, and forward, this is good to go now and is only going to get better...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2020

Very deep garnet in color, the 2014 Ducru-Beaucaillou springs from the glass, offering vibrant notions of fresh black currants, black cherries and black raspberries with touches of spice box, licorice and fragrant soil...

Opulent, with layers of warmed fig, boysenberry and blackberry confiture that loll along, yet are kept going by a terrific graphite note that is well-buried throughout. Alluring black tea, singed mesquite and...

Vinous, March 2024

The 2014 Ducru-Beaucaillou is a stronger performer than many of its peers in this vintage. Extremely well-defined on the nose, this exudes a sense of classicism, black fruit mixed with loam, autumn leaves and a whiff of...

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.

Introducing the exquisite 2014 Ducru Beaucaillou, a Bordeaux Blend from the renowned St Julien region of Bordeaux, France. This red wine is a true testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the Ducru Beaucaillou winery, showcasing the incredible potential of the vintage.

In the glass, this wine is a deep garnet hue that exudes elegance and sophistication. With a quick swirl, the aromas come to life, revealing a captivating bouquet of crushed berries, including blackberries and blackcurrants. Lurking beneath the surface are intriguing notes of spices, wet earth, and cedar, adding complexity and depth to the wine.

On the palate, the 2014 Ducru Beaucaillou is a revelation. It is full-bodied yet agile, displaying a remarkable balance that is rarely seen. The dense center palate is a testament to the wine's concentration, with ultra-round tannins providing a velvety texture. The flavors of black fruit, sweet blood orange, and Asian spices unfold gracefully, leading to a long and lingering finish.

Renowned wine critic James Suckling awarded this wine an impressive score of 99 points, praising its fabulous aromas, complex flavors, and impeccable balance. Other esteemed critics have also showered this wine with accolades. Wine Spectator awarded it 95 points, describing it as opulent and alluring, with layers of warmed fig, boysenberry, and blackberry confiture. Vinous gave it the same score, hailing it as a great Ducru Beaucaillou with charm and personality.

The 2014 Ducru Beaucaillou is a wine that demands patience. While it is wonderful to taste now, it is recommended to drink it starting from 2022 to fully appreciate its potential. However, for those who can't resist, decanting the wine for a few hours will allow it to open up and reveal even more complexity.

This wine is a true gem in the world of Bordeaux, showcasing the best that the St Julien region has to offer. With its superb mix of crisp fruit, great structure, and impeccable aging potential, the 2014 Ducru Beaucaillou is a must-have for any serious wine collector or enthusiast. Don't miss the opportunity to experience the magic of this exceptional wine.
