(WA92-94 points) The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Suchots has a tightly wound bouquet with light mineral tones that become more accentuated with time. I would like to see more roundness come through. The palate is ripe on the entry and here there is more Suchots character with lovely raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit, orange zest and mandarin. The focus and delineation on the finish is very impressive and it lingers tenderly in the mouth. There is classy winemaking here. - Neal Martin

A highly restrained if not mute nose grudgingly displays notes of spice and brooding dark berries, earth and floral hints. There is by contrast excellent richness and volume to the velvety and supple yet serious middle weight plus flavors that display strikingly good persistence on the sappy and beautifully well-balanced if moderately austere finish. This has tightened up considerably since I last reviewed it from barrel and it seems relatively clear that this is going to require at least a modicum of patience but when it arrives at its peak, it should be lovely. Recommended. 2026+

Pure, subdued aromas of black cherry, earth and chocolate convey a slightly medicinal character. Showing the cooler, herbal side of the vintage today, with its black cherry, licorice and mineral flavors tightened by a firm spine of acidity. Lacks real sweetness and pliancy but has life in the mouth and finishes with good floral lift. Elegant but on the lean side, and a tough read today.
