Concentrated and muscular, this was the time when Lynch Bages was beginning to move into its more contemporary construction, with full on Pauillac signature at the top end. It was my wine of the year two years ago, and it delivers again - the graphite, the texture, the black fruits, the climb through the palate, it's just briliant, and punches way above its weight. 70% new oak, Eric Boissenot consultant.

The 2014 Lynch-Bages is full of promise, offering up a classic bouquet of rich but vibrant blackcurrant fruit mingled with with hints of loamy soil, cedar and vanilla pod. Full-bodied, deep and layered, with an abundance of ripe but youthfully assertive tannin, lively acids and a long, resonant finish, it will hit its stride in 10 to 15 years. This is an excellent Lynch-Bages that represents especially good value in the contemporary marketplace. - William Kelley

Fragrant and perfumed, this wine is the epitome of great Cabernet Sauvignon. It is fruity, juicy yet with serious concentrated tannins. There is spice from the wood aging along with a dash of pepper, all the while just bringing out the beautiful black-currant flavors. Drink this wine from 2024 ROGER VOSS

This has beguiling hints of plum cake and melted licorice peeking out, while a core of cassis and blackberry confiture waits in reserve. There’s ample grip, but this remains very polished and integrated, with lovely echoes of anise and fruitcake showing through the very lengthy finish. The 2014 Lynch-Bages is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. The nose is a little restrained, slowly unfurling to reveal notes of blackcurrant jelly, kirsch, and sauteed herbs followed by wafts of cedar, leather, and dried lavender. The medium-bodied palate is tightly wound, with a lively line and firm, grainy tannins framing the taut fruit, finishing long and savory.

Very well-expressed natural concentration of fruit, very ripe tannins and lots of complexity to come. A richly textured, firmly structured wine with the Lynch-Bages hallmarks for the future. The 2014 Lynch-Bages is just a little meager on the nose, well-defined but lacking presence and fruit intensity and a bit dusty by comparison. It could be a question of not having enough time, a tiny amount of stage fright perhaps? The palate is better with pleasant tart red cherries mingling with blackberry, cedar and mint. There is a fine spicy component towards the finish as it gently fans out. Conservative, not necessarily elegant, yet with classic charm.
