Aromas of flower, tile and currant follow through to a full body that's nevertheless tight and reserved. Such beauty at the finish. A pretty wine. Hard not to drink now.

Some spicy oak, crème de cassis and background barrique smells a re present in this youthful, classic Cabernet Sauvignon made by the long-time winemaker at Mondavi, Geneviève Janssens. This wine is still relatively tightly knit, especially for a 2014, and requires a bit of coaxing, but the black and red currant fruit, the classic Pauillac-like cedar wood, and spice box are all present in this is medium to full-bodied wine. It should be given 3-4 years of bottle age then drunk over following 20-25 years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Mondavi's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is creamy, ample and expressive, especially considering it was bottled just two weeks prior to this tasting. Dark red cherry, spice, leather and menthol infuse this hugely appealing, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 was sourced 95% from To-Kalon and 5% from MBar Ranch. -- Antonio Galloni

Wine Enthusiast, September 2017
This wine has a juicy core of cranberry, currant and red cherry that's both powerful and graceful, exuding full-bodied richness within a context of supportive oak and tannin. The finish is dusted in coffee and nutmeg.

Oakville is home to some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon vines and terroir in the world. In the heart of the Napa Valley, this appellation possesses an excellent diurnal variation as well as a diversity of volcanic and riverbed soils that create some of the most complex Cabernet Sauvignon wines each year.

For Mondavi’s Oakville Cabernet, the grapes—80%+ Cabernet Sauvignon plus Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot—are hand-harvested into small bins and carefully sorted in the gravity-flow cellar. Clusters are gently destemmed directly into traditional French oak tanks for cold soak, fermentation and extended maceration–a total of 27 days of wine to skin contact–maximizing the extraction of varietal character and complexity while keeping the tannins fleshy and supple. The new wine is drained and gently pressed into 72% new French-oak barrels for malolactic fermentation, assuring seamless integration of fruit and oak. The final blend is assembled through repeated tasting trials over the 22 months of barrel aging.

Robert Mondavi Winery

Robert Mondavi Winery is a leading California wine producer established by its namesake in 1966 with a vision to create Napa Valley wines that would stand in the company of the world’s finest. He chose To Kalon Vineyard in the heart of the Napa Valley as the home for the winery. The historic vineyard, located in Oakville, California, is renowned for producing some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the world, as well as for its Sauvignon Blanc grapes, from which Mr. Mondavi crafted his signature wine, Fumé Blanc.

Beyond the To Kalon Vineyard, Robert Mondavi Winery sources grapes from some of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards, including Stag’s Leap (Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc) and Carneros (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay).

Robert Mondavi was instrumental in bringing worldwide recognition for the wines of the Napa Valley and promoted the labeling of wines varietally which is now the standard for New World wines. One of his most important collaborations was with Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, creating Opus One, which has become one of California’s icon Cabernet Sauvignon wines.

For 5 decades, Robert Mondavi Winery has led California’s wine industry, and much of the world, with innovations in winemaking and winegrowing.

The Robert Mondavi brand was acquired by Constellation Brands in 2004 and following its sale, Robert Mondavi partnered with his younger son Tim and daughter Marcia to create Continuum Estate. Robert Mondavi passed away in 2008 at the age of 94.
