A fascinating and delightful nose suggests sea breeze in its salinity and alkalinity; diverse floral perfumes; and mint-tinged ripe pear. An intriguingly earthy, marine suggestion of sea urchin adds mouthwatering savor to the polished, juicy palate performance, and the long finish is coolingly green herb-tinged, overtly chalky and saliva-inducingly tinged with salt and iodine. Weil has certainly done a convincing job of demonstrating this long neglected, high-elevation site’s exciting and highly distinctive potential! -- David Schildknecht

Pure and mineral on the lovely, pure and citrusy nose, the 2014 Kiedricher Klosterberg Riesling Trocken is still very stony and closed, showing most of all flinty flavors of the red phylitte slate soil and only hints of tropical fruit aromas. Intense, beautifully mineral and prickling, this is a very elegant and finesse-full terroir Riesling; it reveals a good intensity, a delicate raciness and a long, salty and piquant finish. Still very young, this Riesling purity has an aging potential of 15 or more years. - Stephan Reinhardt
