Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2015

(WA95-97 points) The Château Suduiraut 2014 may well be one of the best Sauternes of the vintage. This year, it is a blend of 95% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc with a healthy 145 grams per liter residual sugar and 4.5...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, February 2017

Knockout wine here, with intensity of flavor, purity of fruit, concentration and freshness. A myriad of apricots, tropical fruits, vanilla and pineapple that has been slathered in honey greet your nose and palate. The...

Vinous, March 2024

The 2014 Suduiraut is an impressive Sauternes, with exquisite definition on the nose with quince, yellow plum and marmalade, demonstrating more precision than the Rieussec alongside. The palate is taut and focused, armed...

Wine Enthusiast, December 2017

Intense and ripe, this is a superb wine from a top Sauternes estate. It has all the expected elements, including concentrated botrytis and honeyed flavors. Seville orange and lemon notes provide contrast, as does its...

janeanson.com, February 2024

Tawny gold at the 10 year point, beautifully concentrated butterscotch and silky lemon peel and citrus, powerfully poised and lifted, great quality. 50% new oak, 150g/l residual sugar.

Candied citrus and pineapple drizzled with acacia honey is how this smells and tastes, and the wine is rich and creamy with excellent concentration. Powerful and flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, March 2015

Really quite subtle nose. Big and bold – much richer and sweeter than most 2014s. Lots of different wild-flower aromas in here – interesting. Relatively heavy. But then there is lots of acidity on the end. Reverberant. 18/20

Wine Spectator, March 2017

On the flamboyant side, with mango and guava flavors out front, followed by hints of creamed pear and fig. The lush finish is coated with almond cream and toasted coconut notes. Best from 2020 through 2035. 3,417 cases...

The Wine Independent, March 2024

Pale straw-gold in color, the 2014 Suduiraut has a very pretty nose of lime blossom, lemon meringue pie, and fresh ginger followed by nuances of chalk dust, coriander seed, and manuka honey. The palate delivers compelling...

This Sauternes estate originally took the name Suduiraut in 1580, upon the marriage of Nicole d’Allard to Leonard de Suduiraut. After being plundered and burned down during the Fronde insurrection, in the 17th century it was rebuilt and renamed Cru du Roy by a nephew of the Suduiraut family, who planted magnificent formal gardens designed by Le Notre, King Louis XIV’s renowned gardener. The estate was designated Premier Cru status in the 1855 Classification.

AXA Millesimes acquired Suduiraut in 1992 with the aim of preserving and perpetuating the estate’s remarkable tradition of vineyard management and winemaking. 92 hectares of vineyard are planted in sandy, gravelly soil superbly suited to Semillon and Sauvignon grapes. Semillon, which represents 90% of the Suduiraut vineyard’s vine population, is the preferred variety for Sauternes. Its very thin skin is particularly sensitive to the Botrytis Cinerea that gives rise to noble rot, which in turn results in a wine which is concentrated both in sweetness and aroma. The blend is then rounded off with the addition of about 10% Sauvignon Blanc.

The vines’ age (a majority of them are over 30 years old) is a guarantee of exceptional quality, giving well-nourished and more concentrated grapes.

Classed as a Premier Cru in 1855, Suduiraut’s grand vin is made from 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc selected from the finest terroirs of the property. This wine is hand crafted at every stage, revealing remarkable finesse and complexity, and a golden color reminiscent of the sun that made it possible.

With age, the bright gold evolves to a dark amber color. With an extensive life-span, Suduiraut powerfully and harmoniously combines fruit and floral aromas with roasted and candied notes. Its superlative elegance comes from a combination of total opposites: voluptuous texture, mineral freshness, and the gentle warmth of spice notes.
