There's a hint of marzipan on the nose that a lot of 2014s have. On the palate this is quite a big, bold dry wine with plenty of appeal. The finish is impressively long. Best now or in 2018 and 2019. Organic wines.

Chapoutier is one of the oldest wine producers in the Rhone Valley with a history that dates back to 1808. For the last two hundred years, the estate has been producing some of the greatest wines in the Rhone Valley. Quality improved and Chapoutier gained international recognition under Michel Chapoutier’s leadership. The massive negociant and winery produces single-vineyard expressions and classic wines from a range of appellations in the north and south of the valley. Today, their range also includes wines from some Roussillon appellations as well as projects in Portugal and Australia.

Michel Chapoutier, a great lover of Alsace wines, dreamt of acquiring his own domaine and creating premium and ultra premium wines. He discussed it with four wine-loving friends and in 2006, they agreed to make a fine Riesling in Alsace together.

In 2009, the “Club of 5” finally set up on 5 hectares in Le Felsberg in Bernardville, near Reichsfeld. The vineyards, planted on steep slopes, were worked diligently and meticulously. This terroir is unique in Alsace: the only terroir in Alsace composed of blue schist, located in the highest vineyards in the region (1,250 feet) and facing directly south. It is believed that vines were planted there in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, master winemakers who knew all about the importance of terroir.

The soil, made up of blue schist and variable amounts of quartz inclusions depending on the parcel, particularly suits Riesling and the first bottles of Schieferkopf were released in 2011. Today, six Alsace AOC wines, including three single vineyard selections, deliver their finest expressions.

Schieferkopf Riesling Lieu-Dit Fels, vinified and aged in big traditional Alsatian casks, has a great golden color. The nose is refined with mineral notes and citrus aromas and lemon. The palate is racy and nervous with a lot of minerality. The finale is on salty notes with a great length and a great texture.

This exquisite 2014 Schieferkopf (Chapoutier) Riesling Lieu-Dit Fels is a true gem from the Alsace region of France. With its elegant white color and cork closure, this wine is a testament to the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into its production.

On the nose, there is a delightful hint of marzipan, a characteristic that is often found in 2014 vintages. This adds a touch of sweetness and complexity to the aroma, making it all the more enticing.

As you take your first sip, you will be captivated by the bold and dry nature of this wine. It has a substantial body that is both impressive and satisfying. The flavors are well-balanced, with just the right amount of acidity to keep your taste buds dancing.

The finish of this Riesling is truly remarkable, impressively long and lingering on the palate. It leaves a lasting impression, enticing you to take another sip and savor the experience.

According to esteemed wine critic James Suckling, this wine received a score of 91 points, a testament to its exceptional quality. He recommends enjoying it now or in 2018 and 2019, highlighting its versatility and ability to age gracefully.

What sets this wine apart is its organic nature, making it a choice that is not only enjoyable but also environmentally conscious. By choosing this wine, you are supporting sustainable practices and contributing to the preservation of our planet.

In conclusion, the 2014 Schieferkopf (Chapoutier) Riesling Lieu-Dit Fels is a white wine that embodies elegance, complexity, and sustainability. It is a true testament to the artistry of winemaking and a delight to the senses. Whether you are a wine connoisseur or simply enjoy a good glass of wine, this exceptional vintage is sure to leave a lasting impression.
