jebdunnuck.com, March 2020

An awesome Saint Emilion, the 2015 Château Barde-Haut showed even better on this occasion than on release. A huge nose of sweet crème de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, leather, and dried herbs gives way to a...

jamessuckling.com, February 2018

Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, wet earth and black tea. Full-bodied, dense and layered with medium, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and power. Needs three or four years to start coming together.

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2019

Dark in color, the wine is rich, fat and concentrated. There is flesh, dark, ripe, juicy fruits and soft, silky tannins that stick with you in the finish. You can drink this young, or age it for a decade. Read more...

The Wine Independent, January 2023

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Barde Haut features lifted roses, kirsch, and redcurrant jelly scents with a core of juicy black plums, clove oil, and cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, it is firm and grainy, with...

Vinous, June 2022

The 2015 Barde-Haut has a lovely bouquet with black cherries, raspberry and crushed stone, wilted rose petal and iris flower emerging with time. The palate is finely chiseled with crisp acidity, much more precision than...

Wine Spectator, January 2018

A restrained style, with a core of damson plum, raspberry and cassis flavors held in check for now by fine-grained cedar, sanguine and iron hints. Best from 2022 through 2032. — J.M.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2018

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Barde-Haut gives up notions of plum preserves, potpourri and baked cherries with underlying Chinese five spice and cigar box hints. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm backbone of...

Chateau Barde-Haut is a 17-hectare estate located at the extreme east of the village of Saint-Emilion with its vineyard forming a natural amphitheater with a southern exposure. The soil is very typical of Saint-Emilion, mainly composed of clay which on a layer of chalk.

The property was bought in 2000 by Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard, whose family also owns Clos L’Eglise in Pomerol, Chateau Haut-Bergey and Chateau Branon in Pessac Leognan. Significant investments have been made in the cellar and all work is done by gravity to ensure the grapes are well respected.

Chateau Barde-Haut was promoted to Grand Cru Classe in the 2012 classification of Saint-Emilion wine and is one of the rising stars of Saint-Emilion.

Chateau Barde-Haut is a blend of Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Franc (15%) from vines with an average age of 35 years. Fermentation takes place in a combination of wooden vats, concrete vats and stainless steel tanks. The vines are hand-picked and aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
