(91-94 points) An exceptionally primary nose only reluctantly offers up its ripe but attractively fresh aromas of various white orchard fruit, floral, spice and discreet citrus nuances. There is outstanding volume to the imposingly-scaled flavors that display first-rate richness while managing to avoid undue heaviness on the powerful, dense and hugely long finish where once again a touch of bitter lemon appears. This will need to add depth to merit the top end of my projected range though the underlying material appears to be present such that it could do just that.

The 2015 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a ripe, quite candied bouquet laced with orange peel, mandarin and hints of fish oil and linseed. The palate is well balanced with a spicy opening, touches of stem ginger and orange peel laced with marjoram, dovetailing into quite an intense, layered finish that is complex and persistent. It needs another 2 or 3 years to really open up, and hopefully it will show more edginess and delineation by then. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. -- Neal Martin
