2015 was a riper and more powerful vintage, and the 2015 L'Etoile Savagnin was produced with grapes from two plots on marl soils and fermented in stainless steel. It ages in barrels that are initially full but are left without topping them up, so the wine evaporates and at some point develops a thin veil of yeasts. Here, the nutty aromas show a smoky/roasted twist. The palate is serious and mineral with a strong chalky sensation ending with a salty twist. This is the finest of the recent vintages I have tasted of this cuvée—elegant, fresh and mineral. It was bottled in March 2019. - LG
