The 2015 Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Beerenauslese is a positive selection of the finest botrytis berries (with and without rot) that were harvested for the Auslese. The wine opens with the same flinty, aristocratic purity and freshness, but it is even more intense and reveals a noble raisin aroma along with grapefruit and lemon flavors. On the palate, this is a rich and nobly textured BA that is concentrated, but also piquant and highly elegant, even finesse-full--and at such a high level of sweetness and concentration! The finish is salty, piquant and full of tension, as well as minerals and grip. This is a gorgeous Riesling elixir made for decades and across generations. It is still dancing, but with heavier clothes than the buoyant Auslese. This BA is still fresh and fruity--really stimulating--and there is no rot here, just a healthy botrytis, and this was very, very rare in 2015. It is produced in 375 milliliter bottles. - Stephan Reinhardt
