Vinous, August 2019

The 2015 Flaccianello della Pieve is even more stratospheric than it was last year. Rich and ample on the palate, Flaccianello captures all of the best qualities of this radiant vintage. The blend of sites, all in higher...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2019

This retrospective gave me the opportunity to taste the excellent 2015 vintage side by side with the highly anticipated 2016 vintage. These two years are famously in a tight race across Tuscany for supremacy. I'm ready to...

jamessuckling.com, December 2018

The aromas are crystal-clear here, ranging from dark cherry essence, dried herbs and dark plums to licorice, cloves, vanilla and paprika. Full body, very velvety yet firm tannins and a long, grippy finish. The tension...

Decanter, October 2019

2015 was a relief after 2014. Manetti describes it as an almost perfect vintage: the summer was warmer than usual with lots of sunshine, but it was never too hot and rain fell at the right moments. It's surprisingly open...

Fontodi is a certified-organic estate in Tuscany that has belonged to the Manetti family since 1968. The property extends over 130 hectares, 70 planted with vines. The estate’s guiding principle is respect of nature and sustainability letting them produce wines that are better, purer, and a truer expression of the grape and the territory.

Flaccianello della Pieve is 100% Sangiovese from a selection of the best vineyards in the Colli Toscania Centrale IGT region. At the modern, gravity-fed winery, the juice ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts for at least 3 weeks. The wine ages in Troncais and Allier (French) oak barrels for 24 months.

The 2015 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve is an exceptional Sangiovese wine from Tuscany, Italy. With a deep, rich red color, this wine captivates from the moment it is poured into the glass. The nose is filled with enticing aromas, starting with dark cherry essence that dances alongside dried herbs and dark plums. As the wine opens up, notes of licorice, cloves, vanilla, and paprika emerge, adding layers of complexity to the bouquet.

On the palate, this wine showcases its full-bodied nature and velvety texture. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, providing structure and balance. The interplay between the rich fruit, taut acidity, and sturdy tannin backbone creates a tension that is truly enticing. The flavors of black currant and blackberry take center stage, accompanied by additional nuances of thyme, leather, mineral, and tar. These elements add depth and dimension to the wine, leading to a long and satisfying finish.

The 2015 Flaccianello della Pieve is a wine of utmost quality and excellence. It has received rave reviews from esteemed critics, further solidifying its status as an outstanding vintage. Antonio Galloni of Vinous awards this wine a stellar 99 points, describing it as "even more stratospheric than it was last year" and praising its density, nuance, and stunning energy. Monica Larner of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate also hails the 2015 vintage, highlighting its exuberance, profoundness, and superb quality tannins.

With its muscular style and ability to age gracefully, the 2015 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve is a true gem in the world of Italian wines. While it can be enjoyed now, it will undoubtedly reward those who have the patience to cellar it for several decades. This wine is a testament to the exceptional winemaking prowess of Fontodi and the incredible terroir of Tuscany.
