Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2020

Now we're talking. I tasted the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino after tasting the other samples from La Gerla, and it's amazing how clearly and convincingly that brawny Brunello character comes through. This is a robust and...

Wine Spectator, June 2020

Black cherry and black currant fruit is accented by tobacco, earth and mineral flavors in this sleek yet dense red. Balsamic elements of juniper, thyme and olive add depth as this cruises to a long finish. The potential...

jamessuckling.com, September 2020

Lots of raspberry coulis, dried redcurrants and red-plum compote here. The medium-to full-bodied palate has fleshy and succulent appeal with juicy tannins and a fruit-forward finish. Drink now or hold.

La Gerla was born from the passion of its founder, Sergio Rossi, who fell in love with the “bitter and sweet territory” of the land, which he purchased from the Biondi Santi family in 1976. He completely restructured the property with respect paid to its original environment, and shortly afterwards in 1978, he created the La Gerla brand.

A small winery, in just a few short years it has become a great cru of the Tuscan region, surrounded by the Orcia and Ombrone Valleys. The property extends over a total of 11.5 hectares, complemented by modern cellars equipped with the latest technological advancements. The vineyards at La Gerla lie right on the Montalcino hill at 320 meters above sea level, just where the slope begins to soften.

Sergio Rossi passed away in July 2011, and the continuity of La Gerla fell to his wife Donatella Monforte. Bringing her managerial experience from the fashion world to the estate, today she continues her husband’s dream and passion.

Brunello La Gerla is known and valued for its special elegance and pleasant aromas. It is extremely aromatic, soft and velvety to taste. The wine is aged in bottle for at least eight months before release.
