There is superb volume and concentration to the almost painfully intense flavors that are an inimitable combination of power and refinement while flashing strikingly fine length on the balanced finish. Not surprisingly this beauty is very backward at present and is going to require extended cellaring to develop its full and considerable potential. collapse

The palate is balanced with a viscous opening and hints of white chocolate and almond, but is initially just a little blowsy. Crucially, this Montrachet only comes into its own after an hour in the glass, finally rediscovering its tension and race. From the lowly score I gave it blind, it fully deserves a much more generous score after the tasting. Give this a serious decant if possible, or better still, cellar it for several more years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure) -- Neal Martin collapse

On the palate, it's full-bodied, ripe and almost unctuous, though it gains tension in the glass and concludes with an attractively chalky finish. There's plenty of depth and concentration here, and I suspect it will be more interesting with a few years' bottle age. - WK collapse
