The 2015 Riesling Wehlener Klosterberg Auslese ** (Golden Capsule) is very clear and precise on the nose where concentrated lemon and grapefruit aromas intermix with piquant slate flavors. On the palate, this is a round, lush, piquant, crystalline and very elegant Auslese with great precision and concentration as well as remarkable finesse. The wine reveals lingering salinity and grippy piquancy in the finish that swallows the sweetness with ease. A great and precise Auslese! - Stephan Reinhardt

Intense citrus freshness, but those citrus segments are slathered in honey. This tastes really good right now, but it has at least a couple of decades of potential.

A "two-star" Auslese from the Molitor estate’s less-than-renowned home vineyard, high up in a small side valley some half mile back from the Mosel, is something of a rarity. This one reflects not only the fortuitous conditions afforded by 2015’s growing season but also Molitor’s recently expanded acreage in Klosterberg and increased interest in showcasing its talents, which are arguably becoming more diverse as well as valuable in a period of climatic warming. Quince preserves and overripe pear are garlanded with decadent lily in a heady, come-hither aromatic display. The silken-textured palate displays almost syrupy fruit, yet also reveals a bright rivulet of fresh lime and a tart touch of green apple. For now, the overall effect is a bit sweet-sour, but the multilayered finish is penetratingly persistent. This is one that really needs time in bottle, although I’ll be surprised if it can match the longevity of a two-star Molitor Auslese from one of his acknowledged great sites. -David Schildknecht
